The first congregation of East Unity was organized in 1800. Robert Leason gave a deed to trustees James Scott and Reuben Irwin for two acres and twenty parcels of land at $8.00 an acre. The first minister, Rev. Thomas McClintock, preached for 32 years. The first church was built of unhewn logs in 1803. The seats were also made of logs. The building had a dirt floor and no heat. In 1875 the present brick church was built. It is the fifth church at this same location. The chandelier that hangs in the center of the sanctuary was originally an oil light. In 1951 the chandelier was wired for electricity.
